Years ago I was given my Husband’s Grandma’s breadmaker and a recipe book which included this whole wheat bread recipe for breadmaker. It collected dust for a while then I’d pull it out and use it. Back to the closet. Rinse and repeat until about 3 months ago when I decided to take a huge step and cleaned our house out of anything with 5 ingredients or more.
Mac n Cheese: toss
Boxed crackers: toss
Bread with 10 ingredients I can’t pronounce and it lasts for 4 weeks without refrigeration? TOSS TOSS TOSS!
Yeah when I do something, I go ALL in and so guess what moved upstairs and got dusted off? This time though it’s in an easy-to-reach closet and is now out once or twice a week as besides being less processed to make, if I’m going to do this we’re doing it on a budget and whole wheat breadmaker bread is just wayyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper. I use Bob’s Red Mill’s whole wheat flour and honey and boy oh boy is it yummy and still less than $1 a loaf. I always make the biggest size I can and yet when I serve it with butter (real butter with less than 5 ingredients!) then it goes re-ally quick!
Whole Wheat Bread Recipe for the Breadmaker Ingredients
* This makes a 1.5 pound loaf – I wouldn’t make any less!
- 1 1/4 cups of milk
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 TBS butter
- 3 cups of whole wheat flour
- 2 TBS honey
- 3/4 tsp salt
Add the above ingredients to your breadmaker and cook.
If you want to add a grain add 3/4 tsp sesame seeds, 2 TBS rolled oats or 2 tsp oat groats.
