What do you buy at Aldi?

Thanks for answering my poll on where you grocery shop. It’s in the left column for those of you who haven’t seen it yet!
Anyway, it got me to thinking: There’s a lot of you shopping at ALDI which is awesome but I was wondering if you buy all your groceries there or just some specific things? The reason I ask is that I have a friend who went there but didn’t want to get a lot as it looked “cheap” and she wasn’t sure if it was any good! I can understand these feelings, we’re brought up to believe good deals are too good to be true. That something half the price of products at other stores must have lots of water added or other unhealthy things in there.
For me personally I go there often as it’s closer and easier than other big stores. However, they don’t have the coffee my hubby likes so I usually shop at Ultra. There’s certain things though that I won’t buy from elsewhere as they’re so cheap at ALDI:
Chocolate chips $.99
Pie crust $.89
Non-fat yogurt $1.59
Fresh Mushrooms $.99 or less sometimes
Cans of tomatoes, tomato paste, mushrooms, kidney beans. After all, it is the “stock up shop!”

So I was wondering: What do you buy at ALDI? Leave a comment and let us know. You don’t have to have a Gmail account to leave a comment, just leave an anonymous one but add your name!

  1. What do I buy at Aldi? Everything! (Except maybe meat, which I only buy from the “loss leader” adds at other stores)
All my snacks, cereal, milk, eggs, the french vanilla cream that I can’t do without–everything. I make fabulous burritos with only Aldi ingredients, my popular egg dish (a Pampered Chef recipe) all from Aldi. My shampoo (except for FAR deals at CVS of Walgreens)soap, laundry detergent, dog treats, you name it.

Even Aldi’s prices have gone up recently, so I’m considering making a spread sheet of prices on the items I buy regularly so that when the sale ads come out in the paper, I’ll know right away if sale prices at other stores are “Cheaper than Aldi”. Maybe I’ll name the spreadsheet “Is it Cheaper than Aldi”.

I used to laugh at people who shopped their, and now my Dutch conscience gives me a hard time about shopping anywhere else.

I definitely buy milk at Aldi’s….it’s HALF what everyone else charges. I buy a gallon for $1.99 versus $3.99 everywhere else. Also, eggs were $1.19 last time I was in there. And several other of the things you already mentioned (canned goods, yogurt, vegetables, cheese, etc.)

  3. I'm pretty new to Aldi, but what I've discovered so far is cake mixes-I make a cake for my hubby's lunch every week. Eggs were only $.79 one day I was there. I also get other "munchies" for lunches too. I haven't branched out into meat, dairy, or produce yet. I do, finally, keep a quarter in my tray in the car now-which I've heard means I'm hooked :>) I look foward to reading what all you guys buy and trying it out!!

    My Aldi list includes:
cream soups to make gravy & casserole
crackers and snacks for the kids
    yogurt
    whipped cream
    baking items
    cooking spray
    bbq sauce
    canned fruit
    ice cream
    noodles
and maybe a few things I am forgetting:)
I do not like Aldi's meat. I prefer Sam's or Ultra for that.

I buy everything there! I have yet to find a bad product of theirs…so stock up on everything! My daughter especially loves the french toast sticks!

  6. Like Lori, I also buy EVERYTHING (with maybe a few exceptions like lasagna noodles and various other items I can’t find there) from Aldi!

You just can’t go wrong with their prices, and I find that their food tastes just like, or better than a name brand kind of the same item.

I don’t buy much of their meat. I also buy my meat from Strack, etc. when it’s on a super sale.

I do, however, buy their ground turkey – in the freezer section. I use it for everything: tacos, chili, spaghetti, turkey, meatloaf, casseroles – you name it! And at $1.19/lb. you can’t go wrong!

I finally got Melanie to jump on the Aldi train, and she LOVES it now too! 🙂

We love Aldis! I always get my sliced lunch cheese there (usually colby & swiss–both $1.99/8 oz). I used to get my chicken breasts there, but now I wait until Perdue is on sale at Ultra b/c they are hormone free & cheaper when on sale. I get my canned items at aldis, bagged spinach & baking items. I bake a lot & I almost always find they have the best deals. We love Aldis!
