Well Known for that Awesome Pie Giveaway

Although cooking is more of a necessity than a pleasure for me, there’s one thing that I like to do to relax and that’s bake. I’m the kind of girl that doesn’t make 3 different cookies for Christmas, I like to make 10!! In Thailand when I had a little more time and no Western food around, I’d spend hours baking special treats for hubby and I to enjoy. They didn’t last long though as lots of the Thai University students would want to try!

Now I’ve got my Mum into it too and each Christmas she likes us to make the “American cookies” that are different to English ones. Fun times!

One of my favourite sites to visit for baking ideas has always been www.bettycrocker.com and I swear that no kitchen is complete without her cookbook. That’s why I was so excited when Blog Spark told me that Betty Crocker was releasing a cool new site – an online cooking club that best of all is TOTALLY FREE! Well, yippee skippy I’m thrilled as I got to check it out this week. I watched the video of it and it looks so cool because they show you step-by-step how to do things. No more guesswork on what it should look like because you can actually take classes and learn from the experts in the BC kitchen! There’s even a classroom schedule:

Week #1 – This was last week and was Kickin Chicken Recipes
Week #2 – Pastabilities is this week and is Secrets of building flavor that will allow you to create your own signature sauces
Week #3 – Greens with Envy Recipes for go-to salads
Week #4 – Viva Tortilla Taking taco night to a whole new level
Week #5 – Wok it Out Stir-fry techniques and recipes for easy flavorful sauces
Week #6 – Small Bites-Big Flavors Dips and appetizers that are easy and flavorful and guiltless desserts

Classes are held three times a week and you can also chat live with the Betty Crocker Kitchens Experts during that time: Tuesdays 7 p.m. ET, Wednesdays 9 p.m. ET, and Saturdays 4 p.m. ET

But don’t worry if you miss it, you can always go back to watch the class on demand and get in on the conversation. For complete details on each of the classes simply go to www.bettycrocker.com/themixer and register to become a member. You can also check out the mixer video here

This really is the coolest thing and to celebrate the launch I got the handy-dandiest little basket for my kitchen. I’m inspired to get back in the kitchen and so can you be with The Mixer. The kind folks over at My Blog Spark are also going to give one of my readers a basket.

Among my friends I’m more known for my baking abilities than cooking and particularly for my peanut butter pie. I wanna know what you’re well known for. If you want to leave a recipe, awesome, if just a meal title, that’s cool too. All you’ve got to do to enter is answer this statement in the comments section below: “I’m well known for my ___________”

Want more ways to win?
1) Write about it on your blog and then let me know you did it.
2) Subscribe to Mummy Deals. All new subscriptions (dated 4/14/09 onwards) will get one more entry.
3) Follow me. You need to have a blog to do this and then add me from your dashboard.

Contest ends on Thursday April 23 at midnight and the winner will be picked and announced on Friday April 24. You must leave an email address or way for me to contact you!

I'm well known for my colorful, healthy & filling salad- great for lunch! Not anything fancy, but delicious!

-Lettuce of your choosing (I hardly use any because I love the other ingredients so much!)
-Sliced almonds (I like mine flavored)
    -1/4 orange pepper
    -1/4 yellow pepper
    -1/2 cup chick peas
    -1/4 cup dried cranberries
    -1 string cheese

Chop peppers into bite sized pieces. Chop string cheese into 1/2 inch pieces.

Plate the lettuce, then chick peas, then peppers, then almonds, then cheese, and top with cranberries.

The dressing I love to make is a creamy balsamic:

Combine 2 parts olive oil and 1 part balsamic vinegar with a pat of dijon mustard, salt and pepper. Shake up and pour over salad.

  101. I’m known for my “pavΓͺs”. Here’s the most popular in our house.

PavΓͺs are layered desserts, usually made with a combination of biscuits or chocolates and different creams. This recipe is prepared with a famous Brazilian chocolate candy, Sonho de Valsa (waltz’ dream), which is available at Brazilian specialty shops.

β€’ White Cream: 1 can condensed milk, 4 egg yolks,
1 tablespoon vegetable spread, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, 1 1/2 cups of milk.
β€’ Chocolate Cream: 1 1/2 cups of milk, 3 tablespoons of powder cocoa, 2 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.
β€’ Whipped Cream: 4 eggs whites, 8 tablespoon of sugar, half can of sour cream.
β€’ Garnish: 10 chocolates Sonho de Valsa.
    β€’ The Creams:
Prepare both white and chocolate creams the same way. In a saucepan, mix the ingredients,
cooking over low heat, stirring constantly until it simmers. Let them cool completely and reserve.
    β€’ The Whipped Cream:
Beat the eggs whites until firm. Add spoonfuls of sugar, one at a time, beating until you have a shiny meringue. Add the sour cream using a spoon.
    β€’ Assembly:
Cut the chocolates Sonho de Valsa into pieces and reserve. Pour the white cream into serving dishes. On top of it, add a second layer pouring the chocolate cream. Add a third layer, pouring the whipped cream. Garnish sprinkling chocolate
    pieces. Refrigerate before serving.
