Meyer’s Castle, Dyer, IN, www.meyerscastle.com
This is one of my favorite places in the region for a special occasion. The food is wonderful and you can get the “Gaucho” style four-course dinner, with several meats brought out on swords after being cooked over a charcoal fire. If you have room for them, that is, after you’ve consumed your meat empanada, made a trip to the tapas bar and then enjoyed your custom made pasta dish from the pasta bar.
The service and atmosphere are superb with the dining room housed in what was once an exterior porch of a 1920’s mansion built for Joseph E. Meyer. Every table is close to a window with a view of the magnificent grounds and resident peacocks that roam outdoors.
The four-course meal is $34.50, a reasonable price for all you get….but even better, if you visit on Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday when dinner is discounted to $27.50. You have to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day or two late, but it’s a good savings if you’re willing to do so. The restaurant is normally closed on Tuesdays, but will be open for Valentine’s Day with the Gaucho-style dinner at full price.
Signature Room at the 95th,Chicago , IL, www.signatureroom.com
This fine dining establishment with views like no other takes the cake as a romantic dining spot. Set on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center, you’re surrounded by windows and breathtaking sights of the lake and skyline…especially at sunset.
The food is superb and the price matches the luxury. For a more economical meal with the same great view, consider visiting for lunch where menu items are $15 and under or order the three-course lunch special for $20. Sunday brunch runs $45 per person, which includes eggs, pancakes, seafood, flank steak, veal, sausages and more along with a sweet table.
