Still in my PJs at 3pm!

Since I gave up my job 7 months ago to become a full-time mum lots of things have changed. My job doesn’t include deadlines, angry clients, and I can stay in my PJs all day long if I want.

One of the most drastic changes though is the financial one. I have always been frugal and loved shopping for deals but it’s definitely taken on a new meaning. Living on one income isn’t easy but it’s possible and I’m living proof. Before Isaac was born I felt the Lord sharing with me, “He won’t want for anything.” Now we’re not talking about everything he wants but I know he’ll always have everything he needs and so will Tim and I. The Bible is very clear on that and I love the Scripture where David says,

“I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.” Psalm 37:25

I do believe though that I should try and help maximize the money my hubby works so hard for. That’s where the recent poll came from. I was out with a friend recently and she told me, “
As a Stay At Home Mum part of your job is to help the family save money by shopping wisely and frugally.” The quote stuck with me. I know God has given us all the money we have but I believe he wants us to take care of it and spend it wisely. You all agreed. A whopping 93% said they wholeheartedly agreed.

Her quote really challenged me as she’s got 4 awesome kids in their teens and is someone I look up to. I’ve really taken it to heart and have been trying to think of ways that we can save more money so that we can have more to save and more to spend on others.

What ways have you come up with to help stretch those dollars? Let’s encourage each other to look for ways to shop wisely and live frugally.

  1. A few things I can think of off the top of my head involved my kids. I watch a little boy part-time at my home. Julia has an instant playmate. There is not much more between two kids and three with meals, etc.
I am part of a new co-op preschool (that’s free).
I recently started utilizing the library for Julia (and us). It really beats buying books at Borders like we used to do : )
Ummm, oh I recently started swapping babysitting with several friends. I am able to watch their kids on a whim because I am sahm.
This is a strange one BUT I cook dinners on the weekdays. Jason cooks on the weekends. So we rarely go out to dinner to give me a “break” from cooking since I get one on the weekends.
Lastly one new word in our world: Aldi’s.
