One in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime and the chances are you know someone who’s already had it or died because of it. One in eight. That is equivalent to an inner circle of girlfriends or the women in an extended family.
For me it’s my Grandma.
My maternal Grandma had to have a double mastectomy and although it cured the breast cancer she eventually died way too young of cancer. It’s something that’s a part of me every time I visit the DR’s office and am required to check “yes” to breast cancer in my family.
Although many people talk about Breast Cancer Awareness some companies are really putting their money where their mouth is (instead of Facebooking cryptic messages *WINK*) and getting it out in the open. Proctor & Gamble is one of them and this year not only do they have their pink range out again but they’ve got Corey Wootton on board as a celeb spokesperson speaking out about early detection. As a Chicago Bears fan this makes me happy!
Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the higher the survival rate. In fact, when detected during the early (localized) stage – the five year survival rate is 98 percent.*
This year, the P&G Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign has partnered with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to educate people about the importance of early detection. You can help save lives by spreading the message that early detection is the best defense in the fight against breast cancer!
You can visit the P&G website to hear P&G employees’ inspiring stories about moments made possible in their lives due to early detection and download the NBCF’s Early Detection Plan App, available throughout the month of October.
