NWI Farmers Markets 2013


Farmers Markets are a great way to get fresh local produce and here in Northwest Indiana there are plenty of them throughout the summer hence the list of NWI Farmers Markets 2013. Here’s my list of local Farmers Markets for you to enjoy and support locally-grown produce. For more information please contact the town.

Although most farmer’s markets close in October for the season, there’s still plenty to do in the region during the fall. Check out this post: Fall Fun in Northwest Indiana, complete with pumpkin patch lists, County Line Orchard information and other free or cheap things do this fall.

Chesterton’s European Market

May 4 – October 26, 2013
Saturdays 8am to 2pm
Broadway and 3rd St., Chesterton
** Artists, chefs, merchants and farmers travel to the market from across Indiana, Michigan and Illinois to offer visitors an extraordinary collection of products and services. Enjoy products ranging from organic produce, artisan breads and cheeses, to hand crafted items and clothing. Spend the day and enjoy ethnic and local food vendors, live entertainment, and the beauty of downtown Chesterton.

Crown Point Farmer’s Market

June 1 – September 28, 2013
(no market June 15)
Saturdays 8am to 1pm
South block of Main Street, Crown Point
** Vendors sell everything from fresh produce, flowers, gourmet foods, candles, cheese and a variety of other products.

Hobart Summer Market on the Lake

June 6 – September 26, 2013
Thursdays 3pm to 8pm
Festival Park
111 E. Old Ridge Road, Hobart
** Enjoy outdoor shopping with a variety of merchants featuring fresh produce, baked goods, ethnic and gourmet foods, jewelry, handmade crafts and so much more. Stroll their historic downtown or picturesque lakefront and stay for an evening of live entertainment in Festival Park.

Highland Street Market

June 8 – October 19, 2013
Saturdays 9am to 1pm
(no market July 6 and September 7)
Main Square Park

** Fruits, vegetables, organic herbs, zesty spices, artisan breads, sweets, plants and unique, homemade items.

Lowell Farmers Market

A new seasonal farmers/craftsmen market focusing on homegrown produce, fruits, baked goods,honey, jam-jellies/salves, eggs , all handcrafted items and home based businesses.

Michigan City Farmers’ Market

May – October, 2013
Saturdays 8am to noon
8th & Washington, Michigan City
** “Home-grown” fruits and vegetables, honey, butters, flowers, herbs and much more. This Farmer’s Market also offers entertainment, education and special events such as wine tastings, bake sales, Alpaca wool spinning and more.

Miller Beach Farmers’ Market

May 5 – September 29, 2013
Sundays 10am to 3pm
667 South Lake St, Gary
** Features fresh produce, local honey, prepared foods from local vendors, and a variety of handcrafted items.

Portage Community Market

June 2 – September 29, 2013
Sundays 11am to 3pm
University Center on Central Ave., Portage
** At the Portage market, you’ll find produce, breads, flowers, crafts and food.

St. John Farmers’ Market

May 5 – October 27, 2013
Sundays 8am to 1pm
Community Hospital Outpatient Centre Parking Lot

** Fresh produce, prepared foods, jams/jellies, perennial and annual flowers, fresh fruit, honey, baked goods, herbs and more.

International Farmers Market in Schererville, Indiana

May 16 – September 26, 2013
(No market June 20 and July 4)
Redar Park, Schererville
Thursdays 3pm to 8pm
** Fresh farm produce, artisan baked goods, specialty foods, freshly ground coffee, locally grown honey, personal care products, locally farmed meats and more. Be entertained in the beer/wine garden by local, acoustic performers.

Valparaiso’s Central Park Plaza Market

June 4 – October 29, 2013
Tuesdays and Saturdays 8am to 2pm
Central Park Plaza, Valparaiso
** Support our local growers as you enjoy the bounty of bedding plants in early summer, the freshest vegetables from summer through fall and the handiwork of outdoor decorations to adorn your garden or lawn.
