IL Museums Not Free For IN Residents

I have been blogging FREE Chicago museum days and getting tons of questions from Northwest Indiana residents so I called a couple of museums and here’s the scoop: Museum days are only available to Illinois residents per new government regulations. Each state can only offer free entry to those who live in their state (I assume because they only pay taxes there) They are getting lots of complaints on this matter and don’t necessarily agree with the rules but sadly those are the rules.

If you are an IL resident, Find out what other free days are offered for the year at Adler Planetarium, Museum Of Science & Industry, Shedd Aquarium and Art Institute of Chicago.

Are you looking to get free admission to museums in Chicago? If you join any museum that is a member of the Assoc. of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), you have free admission for your family to ANY member museum. As members of the Imagination Station in Lafayette, IN (only $60/yr), our family can get into the Field Museum, Museum of Science & Industry, Sci-Tech Museum in Aurora, Chicago Children’s Museum, and many more, including member museums worldwide. We can enjoy free admission and gift shop discounts as our family travels on vacations. There are a few exclusions, such as, free admission does not include any museums within a 90 mile radius surrounding the museum that you join, which is why we joined a museum more than 90 miles away from Chicago.
