How To Make Homemade Freezer Spaghetti Sauce

With tomatoes so good and cheap (or your garden overflowing with them!) it’s fun to come up with recipes that are freezable. Each year my friend, Tina, makes spaghetti sauce. She makes a huge batch and then puts them into freezer ziploc bags in portions that her family will eat. Then she lays them flat and freezes them.

It’s an awesome way to not only get great homemade spaghetti sauce but always have it on hand. Let’s face it in a pickle spaghetti is an easy and frugal dish. Our family can never eat the whole jar of sauce so I always end up freezing some. Here’s her fab recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 2-16 oz can diced tomatoes (or 4 c chopped)
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 lg can tomato paste (12 oz)
  • 1 lg onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 2 small bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire
  • s & p to taste

Directions

  1. Cook ground beef and onion, drain.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer (or low/med slow-cooker) for several hours.

What do you like to add to your spaghetti sauce?

  1. […] A jar of spaghetti sauce is just wayyyyy too big for us so some weeks I plan two meals around 1 jar. But when i don’t feel like eating it twice I simply add the rest of it to a freezer container and stick in the freezer for another night. It’s easy to thaw and use. Lots of people ake spaghetti sauce for the freezer and if you need a recipe here’s my friend Tina’s Recipe for Spaghetti Sauce. […]
