I lived in Thailand for 3 years and while there I made some a-mazing friends including my friend Heather who although we don’t see each other often, I love dearly. While visiting her recently I saw this adorable mobile she’d made her little guy and asked her how she’d done it. If you like homemade crafts why not make a mobile for baby?
Here’s Heather’s instructions on her homemade baby mobile.
While I was still pregnant with my little mystery baby, I was on the lookout for a cute, gender neutral, non-generic, non-plastic, earthy baby mobile. Oh, AND cheap! Needless to say, it was nearly impossible to cover all those bases so I decided to tackle it on my own with a few items I had around the house which ended up being a sentimental rice basket from my time living in Thailand and a few wooden elephants and ribbons from my baby shower and voila!
- One hook screw
- 3 x 2″ wide ribbons
- Flat round basket
- Roll of twine
- Wooden animals
1) Cut 3 lengths of ribbon and glue the animals to them.
2) Take the middle sections of all the ribbons and tie them together in the middle with twine leaving the Momma elephant to hang down.
4) Then I cut two long pieces of ribbon, criss-crossed them on the top of the basket and glued the ends to the sides and let them dry.
5) Last of all, I placed my hook-screw in the ceiling where I wanted the mobile and then picked up ribbons where they cross to hang the mobile evenly. Tada! That’s it! Super fast. Super sweet and super sentimental! And by the way…that little mystery baby turned out to be a big smiley boy who now loves this momma-made mobile.
