Homemade Cleaners: Tile and Grout Cleaner

My husband is a tile guy and gets fed up with people ruining their tile and getting too much dirt in the grout by doing what I used to do: Using a regular cleaner on it. When he tiled our kitchen and bathroom last year I thought they looked so awesome that I wanted to keep it looking new so I asked him what I could use to clean it. His response: water.

“Water? In the two dirtiest rooms of the house?!! Yak Honey!”

If you’re thinking the same as me then wait for the good news: Ammonia. Unfortunately it is a little smelly and as I don’t think it’s great to be around pregnant I’ve got out of cleaning our floors for a few months! Yeeehaw! Still, here’s a recipe for Tile and Grout Cleaner that my friend, Ellen, swears by:

  • 1 TBSP ammonia
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 TSP water softener
  • 1 TBSP white vinegar
Mix together in a spray bottle and clean those floors. Personally, I just use straight ammonia mixed with water on them and feel it works great.
