Homemade Christmas Gifts: Gourmet Ketchups

Doing Christmas on a budget but don’t want to give away something junky and homemade? This week some of my readers have shared their favorite homemade gifts.

Today is from Colleen and is Gourmet Ketchups.

There are 3 types; Smokey BBQ, Key West, Fiesta.

1. Smokey BBQ Ketchup

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 to 2 drops liquid smoke (optional)

1) In medium bowl, combine the ketchup, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, nutmeg, and liquid smoke, and mix well and pour into a bottle
2) Goes well with burgers, Hot Dogs, pork chops and as a grilling sauce for steak… I think I would enjoy this on fries too!

2. Key West Ketchup

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup apricot preserves
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 2 TBS soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp mild curry or ground ginger

1. In food processor or blender, combine the ketchup, apricot preserves, honey, soy sauce, curry powder or ground ginger.
2. Pulse the mixture several times to mix. Scrape down the bowl and process until well mixed, roughly 30 seconds.
3. Pour into bottle
4. This would be good with Turkey, chicken or shrimp.

Fiesta ketchup

  • 2 small jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped. ( I recommend wearing gloves as the pepper can burn sensitive skin or cuts)
  • 2 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

1. In food processor or blender combine the jalapeno peppers, ketchup, lemon juice, hot pepper sauce, and onion powder, pulse the mixture several times, scrape down the sides of the bowl and processes until mixture is well blended, roughly 30 seconds.
2. Pour into bottle
3. This would be yummy with hamburgers, meat loaf, roast beef or as a cocktail sauce.
