Heart Shaped French Toast

Heart French Toast

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day which is why I made Heart Shaped French Toast last week! Before you wonder why I’ve been blogging lots of Valentine’s Day ideas when we don’t celebrate, it’s simple: 2/14/08 was the day we quit celebrating when a very active, very adorable, very smart little boy arrived on Valentine’s Day. This year is Isaac’s 5 year old birthday {more on that another day!}

He’s only 5 and I don’t want to confuse him so I like to make heart shaped things and celebrate love on other days besides the one day that hallmark and society mandate we do! It’s also been a good practice for us as a family to show each other we love each other 365 not just 1 day! Anyhoo….digressing….here is the french toast I made the kids last week.

Heart Shaped French Toast Ingredients for 4

  • 1 apple
  • 8 slices of bread
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 TBS flax seed
  • 1 TBS cinnamon
  • Coconut oil or olive oil
  • Honey
  • Heart cookie cutter

  1. Use a fork to mix together the egg whites, milk, cinnamon.
  2. Add the flax seed gradually. It won’t totally mix in but that’s ok!
  3. Cut an apple into thin slices and then use the cookie cutter to make hearts and set on one side.
  4. Cut out hearts out of each slice of bread.
  5. Heat a frying pan with a little coconut oil in.
  6. Dip each piece of bread into the mix and then push an apple heart into the open bread heart and put in the pan.
  7. Fry it up until the eggs are cooked, turning carefully halfway.
  8. Serve with honey!
