Last year we gave my inlaws this cute Snowman Doormat that my kids made and this year we’re using this salt dough ornaments recipe to create …well….Fingerprint Salt Dough Ornaments!

We used this simple salt dough ornaments recipe and then each put our fingerprint in it. Here’s what I’ve learned: Tim has a much more pronounced fingerprint than the rest of us! His came out really well whereas me and the kids had to press deep so make sure you don’t make the dough too thin.

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • Food coloring - optional

  1. Mix the 3 ingredients together until it will roll nicely.
  2. Add more flour or water if you need to make it rollable.
  3. Roll out on floured surface.
  4. Cut out circles with a cutter
  5. Take turns in pressing in your fingerprint.
  6. Use a straw or chopstick to make the holes at the top for the hanging.
  7. Cook at 200 degrees for 1.5-2.5 hours.
  8. Keep checking it until it's hard. It will depend on the thickness.
  9. Let it fully cool before adding the ribbon and hanging.

Bake them and after baking spray paint them silver for a cool affect.
Then take a permanent marker and write on them. i opted for the year but you could also do your initial or name.
