A while ago we were given a kid’s Bible and it quickly became our favorite Kid’s Bible! Most mornings after the kids wake up I’m not yet wide awake enough to do much more than have them jump into bed with me and read books. The kids love this as we get to read everything from Batman to Thomas The Train and I love it because it means snuggles and Mummy sneaking coffee as I read!
The Jesus Calling Bible by Sarah Young quickly became our favorite read and I started to open it daily to them.
First of all, I LOVE, LOVE the illustrations. The kids are fascinated by the beautiful pictures as I read along.
Secondly it breaks it into stories which are naturally good talking points for daily reading.
Third, every story has a memory verse and a Jesus Calling part where Young personally talks to the kids through words they understand that she believes Jesus is saying to them. Sometimes I’ll even interject their names in and Isaac gets a kick out of it!
We’ve started the Jesus Calling Devotions but for my kids (ages 5 and 2) I prefer the Bible Storybook and highly recommend you grab a copy at Amazon.
About Sarah Young
Tim and I lived in Thailand for 3 years as missionaries and when I found out Sarah Young was also a missionary her story fascinated me. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in the South. She met her husband Steve at Covenant Theological Seminary. They are employed by Mission to the World and have worked in various sites in Japan and Australia, planting Japanese churches and counseling. Steve and Sarah currently minister to Japanese people living in Perth, Western Australia.
A few years ago as Jesus Calling became a national bestseller she started struggling with illnesses and says of her book Jesus Today,
“I am convinced that if I had been healthier I would not have been able to write this book,” Young says of her latest offering. “It chronicles my journey from discouragement to hope. There seems to be a sense of hopelessness creeping into many people’s mindsets as they look at problems in their lives and in world events. But the hope we can find in the Bible is a sturdy reality—no matter what is happening in our lives or in the world.”
Isn’t that awesome how God can use us if we’re just willing?
