This week is National Tourism Week and to celebrate in Northwest Indiana there’s a FREE event called Explore the South Shore on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 11am to 3pm at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Dr, Hammond, IN 46323

Explore the South Shore is a FREE event featuring all kinds of fun events and things to do in Northwest Indiana. Come discover all the South Shore has to offer for families!

• First 250 kids will receive an Explore the South Shore bag.
• First 250 families will receive a regional passport of savings from participating organizations

There will also be interactive booths for each of our participating organizations with activities including:

  • Albanese Candy – Create your own candy necklace
  • Cabela’s – Kids’ casting
  • Challenger Learning Center – Gaze the stars in Northwest Indiana Educational Service Center’s StarLab
  • City of Crown Point – Bean Bag Game
  • Downtown Hammond Council – Fab Four Food Fight Game
  • Hammond Parks Dept – “Guess How Many” Raffle
  • Hammond Port Authority – Get your temporary tattoos
  • Lake Co. Fair – Say Cheese in the Lake County Fair’s photo booth
  • Munster Parks – Duck Pond game and popcorn
  • Pierogi Fest – Pierogi Toss
  • RailCats – Wiffle Batting Game
  • Northwest Indiana Oilmen – Prize wheel
  • Marquette Park – Limbo
  • South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority – Face painting sponsored by Bellaboo’s
