English Recipe Corner

Did anyone try the Yorkshire puddings last week? They’re Tim’s fave so I really need to make some and freeze them for another time. Anyhoo, this week’s recipe (running a day late – sorry! So much to post, so little time…) is a continuation from last week in that you are using the same batter. Here ya go;

Toad in the Hole

4OZ PLAIN FLOUR
QUARTER TEASPOON SALT
1 EGG
HALF TEASPOON MILK
2 TBS OIL
HALF A POUND OF SAUSAGES (NOT BRATS OR HOTDOGS)

1. Turn oven on to 425 F
2. Cut sausages in half
3. Put the vegetable oil in a metal pan (like a brownie pan), add the sausages and cook for 10 minutes
4. Mix the other ingredients together and pour batter over partly cooked sausages and cook for a further 30 minutes
4. Serve with hot gravy and vegetables

I’ve actually never made this recipe, Mum, so it’s a challenge to try it!

  1. Hi from another English ex-pat in the States! Isn't it amazing how much you can save over here? Before I discovered coupons, I used to moan about how much groceries cost in the US versus home – I'm from up north, where stuff is cheap, but not so in Small Town USA pre-coupons. But now, it's a whole other story!!

    PS: English recipe corner is a great idea. I found a good recipe for cheese & onion pie – nothing like the real thing, but the best you can do here!
