Wycoller is a quaint village in the Yorkshire Dales and the “cake” was a cheap pudding (dessert) after a hearty meal

WYCOLLER CAKE

HALF POUND FLOUR
4 OZS MARG
4 OZS SUGAR
DRIED FRUIT
1 EGG
MILK TO BRUSH ON TOP

  • Mix marg and flour together and when crumbly add beaten egg
  • Then add sugar and some dried fruit
  • Roll out thickly into a large circle and place on greased baking sheet
  • Brush milk on top and place in oven at 375* for 15 to 20 minutes
  • The cake should be firm to touch but not too brown on top
  • Slice and spread with butter and jam (jelly!) if wanted. This should keep well in an airtight tin
