We love Sweet and Sour chicken in our house but don’t want to always call out for takeout. if that’s you then Salli’s homemade version is a better, and healthier option!
This is great with chicken or pork and served over rice!
8oz can pineapple tidbits or chunks, drain and reserve juice
2 cups water+ reserved pineapple juice
2/3 cups white vinegar
1 ½ cups white sugar
6oz can tomato sauce or tomato soup
Soy sauce to taste
Cook to boil then stir 3 Tablespoons cornstarch into ¼ cup cold water and blend into sauce until thickened. This makes a massive batch but it freezes very well! I’ll add chunks of tomato and pepper as well then sauté chicken or pork with carrots, peapods etc and serve it over rice. . It tastes JUST like what you get from Chinese takeout, but it’s so much healthier. Plus it gives you the take out fix without the price!
