There are a few basic methods for how to cook spaghetti squash, but this one is my favorite because there is so much less work involved. I don’t have to worry about checking it every few minutes in the microwave, or worry about overheating my house in the summer by keeping the oven on. A Crockpot cooking method takes a bit longer, but is overall much easier to manage.

While you are eating the inside of the squash and not the thick rind, I still take the time to wash it thoroughly before cutting it open. When you cut through the skin, if there are any contaminates on the outside it can get transferred to the inside. Even though you are cooking through and killing any possible germs, I say it is simply better safe than sorry.

Pierce the spaghetti squash 4-5 times (a few on each side) with a knife. This will keep it from exploding during the cooking process. Yes, that can happen. Next you just place in your Crockpot on the high heat setting for 3-4 hours, or on low heat setting for 5 hours. When you remove the squash from the Crockpot, it will be very hot and also much softer. Use a clean kitchen towel to protect your hands and make it easier to transfer from the Crockpot to a serving platter.

Cut the squash down the center and remove seeds. You can then use a fork to scrape out the inside into what looks and feels like squash noodles.
