Tyler Florence’s Perfect Oatmeal
1 cup quick cook oatmeal, rolled oats.
2 cups unsweetened apple juice.
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. unsalted butter
1/2 cup applesauce
1cup fresh blueberries
1 large banana, sliced
1/2 cup shredded toasted coconut
~Cook oatmeal in apple juice. Pour oatmeal and applesauce in pot and set on medium heat. Cook 7-8 minutes until creamy and tender. Stir cinnamon and butter and keep warm until ready to serve. Serve with toppings.
*I used the 100% Whole Grain Old Fashioned Oats that they sell at Aldi’s instead of the Quick Oats. Dirt cheap. I also buy natural applesauce cups (at Aldi’s or Stracks) that are also cheap w/ no fructose corn syrup. These are really cheap and come in 4 oz. cups which equals 1/2 cup. Walmart sells unsweetened 100% apple juice (96 oz) for only $2.27 regular and $1.97 on sale. I used that. I also added a pinch of sugar to each bowl, little extra cinnamon and the only topping that I used was sliced bananas. I thought this was good and very filling. The recipe seems a little unclear about the toppings and the milk. I just used a little milk to thin it up a little. Dirt cheap and healthy!!
