Charity Challenge: February 2012 Urgent Needs

Welcome to Charity Challenge 2012! Last year we filled a trunk of goodies and sent them to Joplin, MO right after the storms. We packed 700 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. We gave tons and tons to food pantries and we helped support local families in need.

We did that. You, me and other readers. Thank you! This year we’re changing it up a little and each month I’ll highlight some very real needs of people in and around Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland. I’m partnering with my church, Faith Church Hammond and the work they do there. These 3 needs for February 2012 are people who’ve come in in desperation to the food pantry. Can we help them out? Please drop off at a drop box or hold until the end of February when I’ll have a place for you to meet up and fill my car!

1) Mother with 25 year old daughter with her 3 young children living with her. Desperate for food.

2) Sixty-one year old woman taking care of her elderly mother and 3 young children who are under her care (not certain relationship of the children); desperate for food.

3) mom, husband(?) and 2 ½ year old daughter. Mom severely diabetic since 12 years old – needs any diabetic type items – food stamps does not cover a lot of the diabetic items; daughter’s poor health – found out she is deaf in one ear

It’s heart wrenching to think that people who 5 years ago would never have needed support find themselves in line for bread. If you’re in NWI or South Chicagoland, you can drop it off at one of these spots. I am looking for more IL businesses to be a drop off so contact me if you know of one. Also: Feel free to drop off any couponed/great items you think we can donate!

If you live outside Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland, please donate to your nearest food pantry. I know they can use this. The food pantry that supports your community.

Head on over to our Facebook event page and let us know how you did. We’d be really encouraged by stories or ideas
