Wrapping your mind around a disaster such as the earthquake in Haiti is rough. Sometimes we want to shut off the tv and turn off the graphic images. But instead as a nation we’ve responded in many ways and so many of you may be looking for ways to help. One great organisation that’s helping out is Samaritan’s Purse. Remember the shoeboxes? Same place.
The city “is flattened,” said Haiti’s consul general to the U.N., Felix Augustin. “The death toll could be between 45,000 and 50,000, with a further three million people hurt or homeless,” a senior Haitian Red Cross official said on Thursday.
Haiti is a very poor nation where 3 out of 4 people live on less than $2 a day. Can you imagine? Here in America things are rough economically but something like this puts it into perspective and I’d like to ask you to help out.
Firstly to pray. Pray:
- That people would get the help they need as quickly as possible.
- For the aid’s workers bringing help and relief to the area.
- That the flights carrying relief supplies soon will be able to arrive in Haiti.
- For peace as people search for loved ones or deal with the deaths of family and friends.
Secondly to give. There are many organizations to give to but I recommend Samaritan’s Purse. You can donate here. Only 5% of what they received in 2008 went towards admin!
