12 Week Sales Cycle on Meat and Why I Won’t Pay More Than $2/Pound

12 weeks is the average sales cycle on meats so when you see say boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.59#, stock up, it won’t come around for about another 12 weeks.  Many people ask what’s a good price and when it comes to meat here are my guidelines:

  • No more than around $1 per poound for pork.  It’s often $.99 by us for a roast and if we need chops I cut it into that.
  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.59#
  • Beef around $2.
  • Italian sausage around $1.80#
  • Ground beef $1.50

Honestly if I’m paying $2 per pound for meat, it better be beef.  The others go on sale so often that I don’t think it’s worth it.
